اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْجَنَّةَ
Allahumma inni as'aluka al jannah
O Allah, I ask You for Paradise
Al-Tirmidhi (hasan)

The virtue of this supplication

This concise dua carries immense weight. The Prophet
ﷺ
said: "Whoever asks Allah for Jannah three times, Jannah itself pleads: O Allah, admit him into Jannah." (Tirmidhi). The beauty lies in its simplicity: a direct request for the highest abode. Repeating it nurtures hope, purifies intention, and engraves the love of paradise in the heart. Scholars recommend reciting it after adhan, in sujood, and during the last third of the night. It is a supplication that combines reliance on Allah's mercy with longing for eternal bliss.

The phrase "Allahumma inni as'aluka al jannah" is a treasure from the sunnah. Parents can teach it to children as young as three, linking each repetition to good deeds. The more a believer asks, the more they are drawn to actions that lead to Jannah. This dua is not merely words; it is a transformative invocation that aligns the heart with the ultimate goal.

Teachers & parents reflect

How to make this dua beloved to young children?
Repeat it with hand motions, describe the rivers and fruits of Jannah. Let them say it after every small favour. Our consistency shows them its value.
Is quantity or quality more important with this dua?
Both matter. Sincerity in asking, even once, is immense. But the Prophet guided us to ask three times so Jannah intercedes. So combine presence with repetitions.
Can we ask Jannah for our deceased parents?
Absolutely. Make this dua for them abundantly. It is a gift that reaches them. The Prophet taught us to ask for high ranks for our loved ones.
What if I feel unworthy of Jannah while saying it?
That is exactly why we ask! None enter paradise by deeds alone, but by Allah's mercy. This dua is a recognition of our need and His generosity.
